Introducing Block Patterns
Researchers are exploring new materials for dental implants like silicon nitride (Si3N4) for their bactericidal properties, which could reduce infection risks like peri-implantitis. The inflammatory condition of peri-implantitis is by far the leading cause of implant failure among all demographics. Graphene-functionalized titanium surfaces are being studied to enhance osseointegration and prevent bacterial colonization, addressing integration and infection challenges. Specifically, studies by G. Pezzotti show that (Si3N4) exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, including against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and antibiotic-resistant strains like MRSA; moreover, it kills the bacteria without the use of antibiotics!
